    Mission Statement

Little Legacy Learning Center provides an enriching environment of love, nurture, security, and community to children between the ages of six weeks and Eleven years, their parents and their families who work and/or live in the diverse community of Philadelphia. Through age appropriate experiences, the children learn respect for others, self-confidence, social skills, to develop curiosity about the world and to appreciate people who are different from them. They grow emotionally and physically and they build a foundation of competence and confidence that prepares them for everyday situations and ultimately, for school. The years of early childhood are formative ones for children and their families. Quality childcare is a learning experience for parents and children alike, and it is from this philosophy that our center derives its name and approach.

Children six weeks through their first day of kindergarten are enrolled in our program. Little Legacy is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. We are also very proud to be a Keystone Star 3 center. Each group has at least two staff (depending on the number of children in the group). We select staff for their experience, creativity, and sensitivity in working with young children and skill in communicating with families. Our Director is responsible for administrative and educational supervision of the center, and she functions as the primary liaison between staff and parents. All staff members undergo backgrounds checks as required by law and all permanent classroom staff are trained in first aid and CPR.

Little Legacy Learning Center values diversity among our families as well as our staff. The center enrolls children and employs staff regardless of race, religion, sex and age, national origin or family structure. We do our best to provide inclusive classrooms for special needs children. We welcome families in publicly funded childcare.

Thank you for choosing Little Legacy Learning Center. As a team, we can work together to provide a safe, and fun environment for your children.

    Why that matters...

    • At least half of the lead teachers have an Associate's degree in early childhood education.
    • Teachers hold a meeting with families when a child enrolls, provide daily updates on the child's activities and hold at least one teacher conference to share child's progress each year.
    • Teachers assess children's development once a year, the first within 45 days of enrollment.
    • Teachers use the PA Early Learning Standards to plan learning activities.
    • Teachers use a standardized tool (Environment Rating Scale) to evaluate and improve their classroom setup and learning activities.
    • Program offers activities to help smooth a child's transition to a new classroom or on to school.
    • Staff receive at least two employee benefits, such as health insurance, which helps reduce staff turnover.
    • Staff complete continuing education each year.
